Although I recommend any Trackball mouse above a regular mouse, this is the scale I use to rate the trackballs. I use a 5 star rating scale, including half stars. Most of the trackballs I have rated are 3 stars (Good), or more.

1.0 Stars: Very Poor
Deeply flawed and barely functional. You’re better off using a regular mouse.
1.5 Stars: Poor
Bad ergonomic design, lacks important features, difficult to use.
2.0 Stars: Mediocre
Usable, but not particularly good in anything.
2.5 Stars: OK
Not the best choice, but it can get the job done. Better than a regular mouse.
3.0 Stars: Good
Good qualities outweigh the bad ones, but there might be better trackballs available in the same category.
3.5 Stars: Very Good
Maybe a few cons, but go for it, this is a trackball that you will be happy with.
4.0 Stars: Excellent
A trackball loved by users and recommended by me as a high quality trackball.
4.5 Stars: Outstanding
This trackball is really the top of its category, a quality trackball even for professionals.
5.0 Stars: Perfect
It’s virtually impossible to create a perfect trackball for all users, but if there is one, we will find it.
