Kensington Expert Trackball in John Mayer Making of “New Light” video
A Kensington Expert Trackball can be spotted in a video featuring John Mayer explaining how he created his latest song New Light.
The Kensington Expert trackball is often seen in recording studios and the latest video of John Mayer explaining how he created the song New Light is a perfect example (since I’m a fan of John Mayer and an avid trackball user obviously).
John Mayer is on a tour with Dead & Company, but on a day off he made a video in Electric Lady studios, a recording studio in Greenwich Village, New York City. The studio was originally built by Jimi Hendrix and designed by John Storyk in 1970. Hendrix spent only ten weeks recording in Electric Lady before his death, but it has since been used by many notable artists.
John is sitting on a Herman Miller Aeron chair (another studio favorite) explaining the story of New Light, when in the background we see the classic, grey, wired Kensington Expert with the palm rest attached.
John himself only uses the trackball at 5m17s in the video.

The Kensington Expert is one of my favorite trackballs, with a large trackball, 4 large buttons and an amazing scroll ring. It’s been a top selling trackball for years and a favorite of professionals (designers, music producers).
In 2016, a wireless version of the Expert trackball was released, but many people still opt for the secure connection of a wired Expert.

The advantages of a trackball mouse are plentiful: it takes much less effort to use compared to a regular mouse, it takes up less space as it doesn’t have to move, and it gives you more control and accuracy.
